Wings over St. Clement

I grew up where a short trip to the store brought you past at least three Catholic churches. You could tear a rotator cuff making the sign of the cross on an hour-long trip.

It’s not like that in Vivian, Louisiana. If your Catholic here, St. Clement’s is it. There are no alternatives.

A feeling of isolation swept over me as I tried to figure out how to photograph it. Nothing I tried seemed to capture that feeling of spritual loneliness.

When I took this photo, I finally understood why.

The swept cloud immediately reminded me of the angel’s visit in the Garden of Gethsemane.

And I realized I couldn’t capture an isolated feeling for this little parish because it isn’t alone.

It never has been.
